ABOUT THE PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
De_oil is a defuse map with 2 bomb sites for Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
This map is a personal project I gave myself to experiment further with the Valve Source engine and make a multiplayer environment while being acute on balancing both sides, with an asymmetric layout.
I chose the oil rig as a setup for the map because I wanted to use the verticality as a tension factor when the players are outside. I like the Vertigo map and I wanted to try out something similar in game feel

TASKS
To create this map I gave myself all the tasks required, such as: reference gathering, layout design, blockout, playtest planning, playtest organisation on a dedicated discord, texturing, lighting and building.
DESIGN INTENTIONS
This multiplayer map centers around verticality within an offshore oil platform environment. The map features multiple layers of elevation, allowing players to navigate between platforms, scaffolding, and interior sections of the rig. This vertical complexity encourages strategic positioning and dynamic engagements, enhancing the combat flow.
The bomb sites are designed to emphasize distinct tactical experiences. Bomb site B is located indoors, within the industrial core of the platform, offering tight corridors and enclosed spaces that favor close-quarters combat and careful movement. In contrast, bomb site A has multiple access points dispersed across various vertical levels, including stairways, ladders, and open ramps. This multiplicity of entryways fosters versatile attack and defense strategies, requiring players to control vertical lines of sight and coordinate team movements.
BOMB SITE A
Bomb site A is a external loading area featuring numerous cover options, creating a dynamic environment for firefights. It is primarily accessible through a loading room that serves as the main chokepoint, forcing players into intense confrontations as they try to breach or defend the area. Additionally, there is a narrower access route via an elevated office space, reachable by stairs and a ventilation shaft. However, using this secondary entry requires breaking the office windows to shoot, which instantly reveals the presence and position of players inside, adding a tactical choice for attackers.
BOMB SITE B
Bomb site B is located at the heart of the oil platform, surrounded by adjacent rooms and narrow corridors that serve as key defensive positions. Access to this site is available both from the outside and through an internal control room, as well as a maintenance passage. Teams attempting to secure this area must remain vigilant for enemies hiding, making the environment tense and requiring careful tactical coordination. The layout encourages close-quarters combat and strategic use of cover within the confined spaces.
